Welcome to Sandpoet.com.
This site was created to showcase the poetry of my late Mother, Emma Littlefield Robbins/Chesney (Red Baron) and her oldest son, David Russell Robbins (Sandpoet).
Additionally, other poems and prose written by Mom’s other children are included and will be added to this site, periodically.
I am Mom’s oldest boy and one of 8 siblings, 5 who are living as of January 2011. Throughout this collection, my family and I will describe, from our experience, the life situation that Mom was in at the particular stage in her life which may have inspired a specific work or group of work. My own works are a rhythmic prose style created since I was 15 years old and continues, as an original inspiration from Mom.
The name Sandpoet was a creation in 1987. When I lived in La Selva Beach, California (Near Santa Cruz), Mom and I talked about the transient nature of the written word and we discussed the parallel to building a sand castle or writing poetry in the sand, both of which were erased by the high tide. Authors today can use technology to document their work, a vehicle which has been in use for only several thousand years, whereas prior cultures relied on cave paintings, scrolls, and other vehicles for expression. Evidence of the works of great artists and writers are available in books and internet sites. Who would have dreamed the internet would be a venue for an artist’s works, previously only displayed in museums, galleries and books for a few thousand years? We are truly in an advancing culture for communication.
Many cultures of the thousand years past have used their own art crafted from the minerals of the earth (soil and rocks) in ceremonial rituals to appeal to the Gods for good harvests or water. An example is the Nasca people of Southern Peru, a culture dating back to AD 500. Their works, The Nasca Lines, are preserved and visible today, mostly from the air. Fortunately, Mom’s troves of poetry were inherited by me and I am developing this website to share her works in a gallery for the enjoyment of any and everyone. Most of the works in this collection are copywrited, a decision that Mom and I made in 1984 to preserve and protect our works for the future.
As we compile these works, we will display on this site. Feel free to read and share these works. If you have any comments or want more information regarding these works, please email us and we will do our very best to answer your inquiries.

" A prelude prose piece speaking to the current political state in the USA"
Bipartisan
Black or White
There is a line
across a path
and everyone
is pushing you left
or pushing you right
I walk the periphery
to one wall,
then the other
Time passes,
The crowd is
pressuring you
To advance erect
or down and out
I don’t know
what will occur
across this line
and I wish instead
it was a zone.
